CONGRATULATIONS!

    HARLAN – A standing ovation greeted a group of Harlan Community High School athletes Friday night, as family, friends and the community recognized the district’s Special Olympics athletes.    

The students were introduced and ran through a tunnel of high school boys and girls basketball players, complete with high fives and lots of cheers.  The cheer team performed for the crowd, and the athletes were honored for performing well at the district event.
    The athletes participate in bowling in the fall and track and field in the spring, and recently completed the winter basketball and cheerleading district competitions.  Winners in the basketball skills at districts qualifying for state were Billy Yoder, Mike Kenkel and Dylan Janssen.  The cheer team won at the districts and heads to state in Iowa City in March.  Cheer team members include Julia Jepsen, Morgan Haggard, Emily Holloway, Angelina Wells, Billy Joe Harvey, and Chloe Hays.
