Deputy attacked after responding to accident call

COUNTY – A Shelby County deputy suffered bruises and abrasions after being attacked in rural Shelby County after being called to a possible car accident near Defiance Monday evening, Dec. 7.
    Authorities aren’t releasing the name of the deputy, but sheriff reports said at approximately 10 p.m. Monday, the sheriff’s office was notified of a disturbance in the 2300 block of Linden Road.  Before deputies arrived on the scene, a second call was received indicating there may be a car accident with injuries.
    Several deputies along with the Defiance Fire Department was dispatched to the scene.  Upon arrival, one deputy observed a male subject, later identified as Michael Stessman, 40, Defiance, lying in the middle of the road, with a pickup in the ditch.
