May Day Melodies

Rediscovering its passion for music and theater, the 45-year-old Western Iowa Arts Association ready to start fresh and grow as a local entertainment group

COUNTY – Keith Bauer remembers the days when the Western Iowa Arts Association performed full-blown Broadway musicals.
Oklahoma and The Music Man.  Those were some awesome productions.
They used to rehearse and perform in the old St. Michael’s Church in Harlan, the same building that burned down a year ago.
Fast forward nearly 40 years, and the WIAA is still providing music and entertainment throughout Shelby County.  Bauer and fellow group member Sharon Donlin are two of the oldest remaining members of WIAA, as the arts group retools hoping to bring younger members into the organization.
