Merle Lawyer, 84

    HARLAN -- Merle Lawyer, 84, Harlan, died Thursday, May 9 in Harlan.
    Services will be held Tuesday, May 14 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Harlan with burial in the Neola Township Cemetery in Neola.  Friends were asked to call Monday, May 13 from 1-8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 4-8 p.m. at Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan.
    Lawyer is survived by his wife, Cleo Lawyer, of Harlan; daughter Charisse (Marc) Lawrence of Cedar Rapids; sons Courtney (Beth) Lawyer of Glendale, AZ and Brad (Stacey) Lawyer of Portsmouth; six stepsons -- Jerry Cook of Council Bluffs, Jeff Cook of Council Bluffs, Dr. Dan (Anne) Cook of Richmond Heights, MO, Tony Cook of Denver, CO, Dan (Jayne) Garrison of Harlan, and Jeff Garrison of Irwin; stepdaughter Julie (Troy) Petry of Council Bluffs; brother David (Caryl) Lawyer of Manly; many grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
