Bulldogs’ 34-4 spurt puts away Spartan boys

DUNLAP (Jan. 2) -- Leading by 10 points in the first half, the Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton boys were outscored 34-4 during a long stretch of the second, third and fourth quarters Tuesday night and lost 58-45 at Boyer Valley.
The Spartans dropped to 3-5 overall and 2-5 in the Rolling Valley Conference while the Bulldogs improved to 8-2 and 7-1.
Boyer Valley scored the last six points of the first half to pull within 24-20 and proceeded to win the third quarter 24-4, scoring often in transition and bothering the Spartans with their length and athleticism.
The Bulldogs began to pull away at the 5:37 mark of the third when E-EHK senior Dakota Rold was whistled for a personal foul and then a technical foul, leading to four free throws.
Guards Chad Klein and Joe Weber finished with 17 and 15 points, respectively, for the Bulldogs, scoring 24 of their 32 combined points after the break.
Exira-EHK was led by Trey Nelson’s 15 points and seven each from Rold and Cole Madsen.
