Cardinal girls showcase ‘A’ game in win at IKM-Manning

MANNING (Dec. 15) -- The IKM-Manning girls basketball team did not play a bad game on Friday. At times, in fact, the Wolves were very good.
But on this night, Treynor was simply exceptional.
Led by the dynamic trio of Konnor Sudmann, Madelyn Deitchler and Kayla Chapman, who scored every point for Treynor, the second-ranked (2A) Cardinals never trailed in beating the 13th-ranked Wolves 62-46.
“They were ready to play. Good teams usually rise to that occasion,” said IKM-M coach Gene Rasmussen. “We just have to find a way to rise to that occasion.”
Rasmussen’s Wolves are now 3-3 on the year and 3-2 in the Western Iowa Conference. All three losses have come against teams ranked in the top 10 of 2A.
Treynor (7-0, 6-0 WIC) set the tone early with four putback buckets (three of them by Deitchler) to take a 14-6 lead in the opening five minutes. The Cardinals finished with a 33-18 rebounding advantage for the game.

Kia Rasmussen scored a team-high 16 points for the Wolves while adding five assists and three steals. Shauna Reitan scored eight points and Gabby Cadwell had seven.
