Cyclone boys 6-0 at the break

Chamberlain scores 23 as HCHS caps perfect home stand

HARLAN (Dec. 19) -- A December of home cookin’ has the Harlan Community boys basketball team at 6-0 going into the holiday break.
The sixth-ranked (Class 3A) Cyclones posted perhaps their most impressive win yet in Tuesday’s non-conference matchup with Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln, putting together two crucial second-half runs and holding off a frantic rally in the final minute to beat the Lynx 64-59.
Shane Chamberlain led the way with 23 points and 14 rebounds for HCHS, which was playing without second-leading scorer Brett Sears due to a sprained ankle.
The Cyclones have yet to leave town this season due to a unique scheduling quirk that started them off with six straight home games. They will return to action on January 2 at Atlantic, opening a stretch of seven out of nine games on the road.
“That was a complete game for us tonight,” said HCHS coach Mitch Osborn. "That was a very good win over a very talented team.”
The Cyclones snapped a recent four-game winning streak by A.L. (4-3) and beat the Lynx for the first time in the last four meetings. Troy Houghton and Preston Fant led Abraham Lincoln with 21 and 20 points, respectively. Houghton’s impressive line also included 13 rebounds, six steals, four blocks and three assists.
In addition to Chamberlain’s season-high 23 points, Klaassen and Moser finished with 11 each for the Cyclones, followed by Hansen with six, Schmitz five and Monson four.
