Cyclones lose another gridiron shootout, 49-41
HARLAN -- It wasn’t yet the knockout punch to Harlan Community’s 2016 playoff hopes, but it was a damaging body blow at the very least.
For the second straight week, HCHS scored a lot of points but allowed even more, yielding 632 yards in an exciting, but disappointing, 49-41 loss to Glenwood at Merrill Field.
Coupled with their 70-49 setback at Creston/O-M in Week 3, the Cyclones have allowed an astonishing 119 points and 1,174 yards in a two-game span and are off to their second 1-3 start in the last three years. They stand 0-2 in Class 3-A, District 7, meaning they must likely win out and get some help to have a chance at qualifying for the playoffs in October.
Barring any unforeseen upsets, one possible scenario involves HCHS and Creston (4-0) winning their last five games to create a three-way tie for second in the district. Even then, the Cyclones would need to be on the top end of a points-differential tiebreaker to nab an automatic postseason bid.
