Cyclones start fast in opening rout of Shenandoah

HARLAN (Dec. 1) -- Much tougher games await the Harlan Community boys basketball team during the next three months, but Friday night provided a nice starting point for a Cyclone squad looking to bounce back from a disappointing 11-11 season.
Led by Brett Sears’ 14 points and seven rebounds off the bench, HCHS stormed out of the gates on a 27-2 run and rolled past Shenandoah 81-34 in the Hawkeye Ten Conference opener for both teams.
Shane Chamberlain and reserves Jake McLaughlin and Jonny Cheek added 10 points apiece for the Cyclones, who had 12 of their 15 players break into the scoring column on a night in which they shot 53 percent from the field.
It’s very early - and the 0-3 Mustangs provided little resistance on Friday - but the 2017-18 Cyclones appear to be a team built on athleticism, depth and balance.
