Cyclones survive Kearney Catholic at Nebraska Prep Classic

OMAHA, NEB. (Jan. 20) -- Shane Chamberlain (21) and Logan Klaassen (19) combined for 40 points last Saturday as the Harlan Community boys basketball team fought off a tough challenge to defeat Kearney Catholic 54-45 in the Nebraska Prep Classic at Ralston Arena.
Klaassen knocked down three 3-pointers in the third quarter, including two in the final minute that gave HCHS a 41-32 advantage. Kearney Catholic answered with a game-tying run in the fourth before Chamberlain’s third trey of the game put the Cyclones ahead to stay with about two and a half minutes remaining.
HCHS improved to 11-2 overall while the Stars fell to 2-14.
“We feel very fortunate to come away with the victory as we really had to grind this one out,” noted Cyclone coach Mitch Osborn. “We struggled against their 2-3 zone most of the game."
Kevin Campbell was the team’s third-leading scorer with six points, followed by Hunter Manz with three and Jared Moser and Deren Schmitz with two apiece.
