Cyclones sweep Creston in baseball twin bill
CRESTON (May 31) -- The Harlan Community baseball team swept a conference doubleheader at Creston Thursday, holding on for a 2-1 win in game one before routing the Panthers 10-0 in a five-inning night cap.
HCHS improved to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in Hawkeye Ten Conference play while Creston dropped to 2-4 and 1-2, respectively.

Connor Bruck pitched a perfect seventh inning with just seven pitches to earn his second save and close the door on the Cyclones’ 2-1 game one victory.
Jacob Bartley (2-0) pitched four-plus scoreless innings for the win, allowing three hits. Luke Schaben worked two hitless innings of relief but issued two walks and also hit two batters. A wild pitch scored Creston’s only run in the bottom of the sixth before Schaben escaped a bases-loaded jam to preserve the lead and get the ball to Bruck.

The Cyclones scored at least two runs in four straight innings to take control of game two and win 10-0 in five innings.
Logan Klaassen led the team’s 11-hit attack by going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI while Doran went 2-for-3 with a double. Sears and Luke Schaben both singled and walked twice, combining to score four runs and drive in three.
On the mound, Bruck (1-0) and Riley Kohles combined on a one-hit shutout and overcame three errors behind them. Bruck pitched the first four innings to garner his first win of the year.
