Doran signs with Southwestern CC for baseball

 HARLAN -- Harlan Community senior Ryan Doran signed a national letter of intent on December 21 to play baseball at Southwestern Community College in Creston. Ryan is the son of Randy and Ann Doran, Harlan.
 As a first-year starting first baseman in 2017, Doran was instrumental in helping the Cyclone baseball team qualify for its seventh straight state tournament and reach its third consecutive state championship game. HCHS finished 36-3 overall and was the Class 3-A runner-up to Davenport Assumption.
 Doran finished the season with a productive slash line of .442 (batting average)/.536 (on-base pct.)/.743 (slugging) - his batting average and slugging percentage were team-highs - and also led the squad with 50 total hits, six home runs and 14 doubles while striking out just six times in 113 at-bats. Doran also totaled 50 runs-batted-in, 39 runs scored, 18 walks and 10 stolen bases.
