Earlham gridders run past Vikings

 AVOCA (Oct. 4) -- Earlham senior Caleb Swalla rushed for 231 yards and four touchdowns on 31 carries Friday night as Earlham won its fifth straight game with a commanding 47-10 victory at AHSTW. The Cardinals, whose only loss came in Week 1 against third-ranked (1A) Van Meter, improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in Class A, District 9. The Vikings are in a four-way tie for second place at 3-3 overall and 1-1 in district play.
 Earlham finished the game with 410 rushing yards and forced five AHSTW turnovers on defense. Swalla added a 92-yard kickoff return touchdown to his big night on offense.

   Jackson Woltmann led AHSTW with 67 rushing yards and one touchdown and Raydden Grobe kicked a 27-yard field goal. Denver Pauley added 49 rushing yards and Blake Holst passed for 72 yards but was intercepted three times. Michael Shiffer had 31 receiving yards and led the Viking defense with 14 tackles.
