Fourth-quarter rally lifts Cyclone girls past Fillies
HARLAN (Dec. 1) -- For the first three quarters on Friday, it simply didn’t look like Harlan Community’s night against Shenandoah.
Trailing almost the entire way, including 21-14 at the half, the Cyclone girls had rallied within a point when Lexi Larsen’s 30-footer was waved off for traveling at the third-quarter buzzer.
The final eight minutes, though, were all Cyclones.
Sparked by Macie Leinen’s driving three-point play and Chloe Hansen’s go-ahead three with 5:19 to go, HCHS outscored the Fillies 19-8 in the fourth quarter and finished on a 23-8 run overall to notch a 44-34 Hawkeye Ten Conference victory.
In a matchup of teams both ranked 15th in their respective class, the 4A Cyclones bounced back from a season-opening 18-point loss to Treynor four nights earlier and handed the 3A Fillies (3-1, 0-1 H-10) their first loss of the season.
