Girls Basketball: Wolves start strong with rout of Audubon

MANNING (Nov. 28) -- Returning six of its top seven scorers from a year ago and already showing mid-season intensity on defense, the IKM-Manning girls basketball team appears ready to pick up right where it left off from last year’s 18-5 campaign.
On Tuesday, the 10th-ranked (2A) Wolves notched 26 steals and ended the first half on a 20-0 run on their way to a season-opening 58-19 rout of Audubon.
Scoring numerous layups off steals and well-executed inbounds plays, IKM-M built a 13-2 lead out of the gate, led 35-9 at halftime and extended the margin to 43 points during the second half.
Audubon, which had already played a pair of non-conference games, turned the ball over 33 times and shot 26 percent in falling to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the Western Iowa Conference.
“We have the nucleus back from last year and the kids work so well together and they work hard and play together,” said IKM-Manning coach Gene Rasmussen of this year’s high potential.
