Grubbs scores 21 in Spartan win

 ELK HORN (Dec. 1) -- Freshman Tatum Grubbs scored a game-high 21 points in her high school debut while senior Sophia Peppers tallied 18 points, eight rebounds, eight steals and five assists last Friday night as the Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton girls basketball team opened the season with a 67-32 home win over Coon Rapids-Bayard. The Spartans led 35-15 at the half and continued to pull away after intermission.
 Exira-EHK knocked down eight 3-pointers as a team, including Grubbs shooting 3-for-6 and Kamryn Waymire making both of her long-range attempts. The Spartans also finished with 23 steals (Peppers 8, Ellie Schultes 6, Kealey Nelson 4) and assisted on 22 of 26 made field goals.
 Nelson was the third Spartan player to score in double digits with 10 points while adding seven rebounds and three assists.
