HCHS bowlers 3rd at Le Mars

 LE MARS (Jan. 27) -- The Harlan Community bowling teams both placed third out of six teams at last Saturday’s Le Mars Tournament, including a season-best total-pin score of 2,910 for the Cyclone boys at Sweet 16 Lanes.
 Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson was the boys champion with a score of 3,190, followed by OA-BCIG (2,946), HCHS (2,910) Le Mars (2,775) and MMC-RU (2,755).
 Two Cyclones averaged better than 200 during the individual round as Darren Stein rolled a two-game set of 422 (235, 187) and Lucas Schmitz had a consistent 410 (202-208). Additional scores included: Bryan Hanson (399), Devin Wilson (389), Bailey Schmitz (328) and Keaton Jones (298).
 In the girls tournament, Le Mars placed first with an impressive score of 3,065, followed by Thomas Jefferson (2,669), HCHS (2,309), MMC-RU (2,260) and OA-BCIG (2,258).
 Sophomore Jayden Gessert led the Cyclone girls with a two-game set of 376, combining a 200 game with a 176. Kenzie Jones was next in line with a 333, followed by Lexus Brown’s 303, Abby Swank 293, Emma Barnes 266 and Serena Kurtz 251.
