HCHS boys extend bowling win streak to six duals

 HARLAN (Jan. 25) -- The Harlan Community boys bowling team extended its dual winning streak to six on Thursday with a 104-pin victory vs. Nodaway Valley, 2392-2288, at Cyclone Lanes. HCHS (6-1) also picked up recent wins over Tri-Center, 2796 to 2094, on January 20 at Minden and 2796 to 2732 over OA-BCIG on January 18 at Ida Grove.
 The Cyclone girls, meanwhile, are 1-6 on the year following a recent stretch of one win and two defeats. HCHS lost at OA-BCIG 2123-1976 (Jan. 18), then beat Tri-Center 2330-2144 (Jan. 20) before losing a heartbreaker at home to Nodaway Valley, 2036-2029, this past Thursday. Nodaway Valley (7-1) trailed by 52 pins following the individual round but outscored the Cyclones 697-638 in the Baker games to rally for the win.
 Kenzie Jones led the HCHS girls with a two-game set of 331 (198-133) vs. the Wolverines while Serena Kurtz had a 314 (132-182). The Cyclones’ season-best team score vs. T-C featured three sets over 300: Jones with a 320 and Jayden Gessert and Emma Barnes both with 300. Barnes led the team at OA-BCIG with a 295.
 Darren Stein posted the Cyclone boys’ high set of the year with a 468 at Ida Grove, rolling games of 222 and 246. Bailey Schmitz added a 408. HCHS rolled exactly the same team score at Minden (2796), led by Stein’s 398 and Lucas Schmitz’s 382. In the home meet vs. Nodaway Valley, Bryan Hanson led the way with a 332, followed by Devin Wilson (314) and Stein (309).
