HCHS boys finish sixth at 3A sectional

 DENISON (May 11) -- Playing without two of their top golfers, Harlan Community finished its season by placing sixth out of eight teams in last Friday’s Class 3A Boys Sectional Tournament at Denison’s Majestic Hills Golf Course.
 HCHS sophomore Jake Dotzler stepped up his game with a team-best round of 80 on the hilly par-71 course, placing eighth overall and finishing just three strokes away from advancing to this week’s district meet. Dotzler’s round included nine pars and his highest scores were a pair of 6’s on the par-5 seventh and 15th holes.
 Atlantic won the meet with a team score of 309, led by first-place medalist Ben Renaud’s 3-under 68. ADM secured the second district qualifier spot with a 323, holding off Glenwood (325), Denison-Schleswig (329) and Carroll (332). HCHS was next in line with a 341.
 The Cyclones played without their top two Hawkeye Ten Conference finishers in juniors Mason Peters and Jay Swanson, who were both attending the Business Professionals of America National Conference in Dallas.
 HCHS seniors Kevin Campbell, Jared Moser and Ryan DeMott carded rounds of 84, 88 and 89, respectively, junior Blake Goshorn shot a 95 and freshman Jacob Schechinger had a 102.
