HCHS girls have mixed results in jamboree, scrimmage

 COUNCIL BLUFFS (Nov. 16) -- The Harlan Community girls basketball team saw its first action of the season late last week, beating IKM-Manning in a jamboree on Thursday night (Nov. 15) in Harlan and losing a Hall of Pride Scrimmage by one point at Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson on Friday.
 The Cyclones and Wolves played just two quarters to close out Thursday’s eight-team jamboree. HCHS led 10-6 after one quarter and held on to win 25-22.
 Freshman Caitlyn Leinen led the Cyclone girls with six points, followed by Ashley Hall and Anna Ahrenholtz with five points each. For IKM-Manning, Caitlin Muhlbauer and Sydney Wegner tied for team-high honors with eight points each.
 On Friday night, HCHS fell behind 24-5 and later trailed by 21 points before storming back and falling just short against the Yellow Jackets, 54-53, in a full scrimmage.
 With just a few seconds left, Cyclone senior Chloe Hansen stole an inbounds pass but was unable to knock down a desperation shot at the buzzer. The Cyclones outscored Tee Jay 27-19 in the fourth quarter.
 Three players finished in double-digit scoring for HCHS as Macie Leinen tallied 11 points and Anna Ahrenholtz and Jocelyn Cheek combined to hit five three-pointers and scored 10 points each.
 Brecken Van Baale totaled six points, 12 rebounds and six assists while Hansen had five points, three steals and three assists.
