HCHS, Shenandoah split bowling season opener

 HARLAN (Dec. 3) -- The Harlan Community bowling teams opened their season with a split against Shenandoah Monday at Cyclone Lanes. The Cyclone girls were victorious by a total score of 2,122 to 2,017 while the Mustangs won the boys dual 2,573 to 2,290.
 The HCHS girls built a 121-pin advantage following two individual rounds and were able to make it stand throughout the Baker games. Sophomore Abby Swank paced the Cyclones with a 344 series, rolling consistent games of 176 and 168. The Fillies were led by Ami Apperson’s 302.
 Additional counting scores for HCHS included: Madison Horn 295 (139-156), Olivia Petersen 278 (145-133), Jayden Gessert 265 (150-115) and Ania Kaster 261 (143-118). Macey Bendorf finished with a 196 (99-97).
 The Cyclone boys fell behind by 212 pins through individual bowling and were also outscored during the Baker games by 71. All six Shenandoah varsity bowlers averaged at least a 150 on the day, led by Devin Morelock’s 402 series (178-224).
 Darren Stein, a returning state qualifier, turned in the Cyclones’ best individual round with games of 158 and 223 for a 381. The rest of the scorecard included: Isaac Jones 331 (147-184), Sam Andersen 304 (150-154), Jacob Dotzler 270 (122-148), William Funke 270 (132-138) and Brennon Munch 258 (95-163).
