HCHS splits softball twin bill with Tigers

 RED OAK -- The Harlan Community softball team split a Hawkeye Ten doubleheader at Red Oak on June 28, winning game one 6-2 and losing the night cap 10-7. The games were moved from Harlan to Red Oak due to rain.
 HCHS junior Morgan Schaben (10-10) pitched all seven innings of the first game, allowing seven hits and one earned run while striking out 11. She walked three batters and hit two.
 The Cyclones did all of their scoring in a six-run, six-hit fourth inning which included a two-run triple by Lexi Larsen. Anna Ahrenholtz and Kate Heithoff both added RBI singles and Emily Brouse drove in a run on a fielder’s choice.
 The Cyclones led 4-2 after one inning in game two but couldn’t put the brakes on the Tiger bats in falling behind 9-4 after three and a half and losing 10-7.
 Chloe Johnson went 4-for-5 with a home run and five RBI for Red Oak, which outhit the Cyclones 12-9 and improved to 14-16 overall. HCHS also committed four errors.
 Schaben and Madison Parman both hit RBI doubles in the Cyclone first while Madison Schumacher and Ahrenholtz had run-scoring singles. Larsen went 2-for-5 with a double and one run scored and Schaben finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.
