IKM-M girls place fifth in Sporrers’ final state 4x800

DES MOINES (May 19) -- IKM-Manning’s sister combo of Payton and Shyanne Sporrer both competed in seven state meet events during their four years with the Wolves track team.
They stamped their names on multiple school records - both individual events and relays - but prior to this year had not garnered a state medal higher than seventh.
At the 2018 Co-Ed State Track and Field Championships, the Sporrer girls and their teammates went out with a bang, placing fifth in the Class 1A 4x800 relay last Thursday. Kia Rasmussen, Payton Sporrer, Shyanne Sporrer and Gabby Cadwell teamed up to run a season-best time of 10:15.81 on the Drake Stadium blue oval, highlighting the Wolves’ four state-qualified events.
IKM-M entered state with the eighth-fastest qualifying time in 1A and improved it by exactly nine seconds. The same four girls ran the 4x800 at state last year and finished 13th in Class 2A despite setting a school record of 9:58.83.
About two hours after the 4x800, Cadwell returned to the track for her individual event, the 400-meter dash, but did not appear to be fully recovered. She finished 23rd out of 24 runners in 1:04.81.
Rasmussen qualified as an individual in the open 800 and placed 17th on Saturday morning with a personal-best time of 2:29.40. She moved up three spots from her qualifying rank.
The Wolves also competed in Friday’s 4x400 relay prelims and placed 17th with a season-best time of 4:18.37. Team members were Rasmussen, Payton Sporrer, Alexa Ahrenholtz and Cadwell.
