IKM-Manning comeback falls short against Chargers

MANNING (Aug. 30) -- ACGC’s powerful rushing attack netted 400 yards on 65 carries Friday night as the Chargers built a 26-7 halftime lead and held off IKM-Manning 32-21 in the season opener for both football teams.
The outcome was in stark contrast to a year ago, when the Wolves prevailed 35-0.
This time, ACGC did not even attempt a pass and ran nearly twice as many plays from scrimmage as IKM-M, putting together touchdown drives covering 68, 72, 50, 80 and 68 yards. Two of the drives lasted at least 12 plays.
Gavin Cornelison led the Chargers with 196 rushing yards on 30 carries (two TDs) while Kolby Jacobe added 172 yards and three scores on 17 attempts.
The Wolves took a brief 7-6 lead in the first quarter when Amos Rasmussen answered the Chargers’ first score with an 81-yard kickoff return touchdown and the extra point kick. Amos led the Wolves with 116 rushing yards on 16 carries, including a 34-yard TD scamper in the third quarter. Kyler Rasmussen added a six-yard touchdown in the closing minutes.
Several Wolves had busy nights on defense trying to slow down the Charger rush attack. Kyler Rasmussen led the way with 17 total tackles, followed by Colten Brandt 16, Will Jorgensen 15 and Mitchell Kerkhoff and Brody Swearingen with 11 each.
