Larsen buzzer-beater nets Klaassen’s 100th win

Three-pointer at the horn gives HCHS girls 36-33 win over Glenwood, provides milestone for head coach

HARLAN -- Zach Klaassen’s first 99 wins as a head basketball coach included a pair of state championships, three conference titles and four consecutive trips to the state tournament... but only one buzzer beater.
 Until Saturday night.
Harlan Community junior Lexi Larsen made Klaassen’s 100th career ‘W’ extra special as time expired, swishing a tie-breaking, game-winning three-pointer from the right corner to lift the Cyclone girls past Glenwood 36-33.
In a game that saw HCHS shoot 16.3 percent from the field and miss its first 20 three-point attempts, Larsen’s first points of the night erased 31 minutes and 59 seconds of frustration and returned the Cyclones’ record to the .500 mark at 5-5 overall.
Klaassen, now an impressive 100-11 as a fifth-year coach, sought out Larsen for a big hug after the game.
