Late-game run lifts Treynor past Wolves

MANNING (Dec. 15) -- A timely 7-0 run gave Treynor the fourth-quarter cushion it needed Friday night as the Cardinals were able to stay undefeated with a hard-fought 57-50 victory at IKM-Manning.
The well-played Western Iowa Conference boys game featured 17 lead changes and five ties, the last deadlock occuring at 46-46 on Jared Johnson’s shot in the lane for IKM-M early in the fourth quarter.
Treynor would respond by scoring the next seven points to take the biggest lead by either team all night. Sandwiched between two Jon Schwarte baskets was Jerry Jorgenson’s fourth three-pointer of the game, capping a long possession in which the Cardinals patiently worked the ball around the perimeter against the Wolves’ 2-3 zone.
IKM-Manning rallied back within 53-50 on two Alex Lingle free throws with more than a minute left, but could not pull any closer as Jack Stogdill’s layup and Luke Clausen’s free throws sealed the win for Treynor (6-0).
IKM-M dropped to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the WIC.
“We had some opportunities in the fourth quarter, we just weren’t able to get over the hump and make that layup or that big shot to give ourselves a one-possession game late,” said Wolves’ coach Keith Wagner.
“The guys really competed hard... I’m really proud."

IKM-M Scoring Leaders: Jared Johnson 25, Alex Lingle 13 (7 rebounds), Austin Ahrenholtz 6.
