Manz ties for 11th at H-10 girls golf tourney

SHENANDOAH (May 7) - Haley Manz narrowly missed out on a top-12 medal at Monday’s Hawkeye Ten Conference Girls Golf Tournament, shooting a consistent round of 98 as Harlan Community placed seventh out of 11 teams at Shenandoah’s American Legion Country Club.
Plagued by some bad opening holes, including a 10 on No. 1 and a 12 on No. 16, HCHS shot a 422 that left them 14 strokes back of fourth-place Clarinda.
Three teams separated themselves from the rest of the field, led by Creston’s impressive winning score of 357. Kuemper Catholic edged Atlantic for second place by three strokes, 380 to 383.
Manz carded between a 4 and a 6 on all but two holes, shooting a 50 on the par-35 front nine and a 48 on the par-37 back. The sophomore tied for 11th place in the scoring but was left out of the individual top 12 based on a handicap tiebreaker hole.
Senior Lexie Holloway, the Cyclones’ number one player on the card, overcame a 10 and a 7 on the first two holes to finish with a 103. Freshman Jocelyn Cheek shot a 109, Kayla Powers had a 112 and Delaney Kelly and Ellen Keast both finished with 115 strokes.
