McCarthy hits 100-win mark in Viking sweep

 AVOCA (Dec. 19) -- The AHSTW wrestling team entered the holiday break on a good note and gave head coach Evan McCarthy his 100th career win Tuesday night with a double dual sweep against Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln and Tri-Center.
 The Vikings beat AL 45-36 and topped Tri-Center 42-25. The Lynx beat the Trojans 48-27 in the other dual.
 Five Viking wrestlers went 2-0 on the night, led by Gavyn Fischer’s 4-2 decision and first-period pin at 195 pounds. Also winning twice were Jaeden Rasmussen at 126 (pin, forfeit), Gabe Pauley at 170 (2 forfeits), Joe Kenkel at 182 (pin, forfeit) and Caden Larson at 220 (pin, forfeit).
 AHSTW trailed late in both of its duals before finishing strong.
Vikings 3rd at WIC Duals
 AHSTW finished with a 5-2 record and placed third at the Western Iowa Conference Dual Tournament December 15-16 at Tri-Center.
 Missouri Valley won this year’s WIC championship - its first - with a 7-0 record during action Friday and Saturday. Logan-Magnolia placed second at 7-1.
 AHSTW’s Gabe Pauley (170) and Gavyn Fischer (195) were both 7-0 on the weekend while Joe Kenkel (182), Ben Ehlers (126) and Joel Sampson (120) all went 6-1.
