McLaughlin commits to UNI

 HARLAN -- Harlan Community senior defensive end Jake McLaughlin recently made his verbal commitment to play football at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls starting in the fall of 2019. The UNI Panthers are an NCAA Division I football program at the Football Championship Subdivision level (formerly known as Division I-AA) and a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
 On July 25, McLaughlin tweeted: Very excited to announce my commitment to continue my education and play football for the University of Northern Iowa!!@CoachNDanielson.
 According to McLaughlin, FCS schools South Dakota State and South Dakota were also recruiting him (SDSU extended a scholarship offer) as well as several NCAA Division II programs.
 As a 6’3”, 205-pound junior in 2017, McLaughlin finished second on the Cyclone defensive unit with 40 solo tackles and 36 assists and tied for the team lead with 13 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. He also recovered a fumble.
