Parman goal lifts HCHS girls past Denison 1-0

DENISON (April 30) -- The Harlan Community girls soccer team notched its first conference win of the year in thrilling fashion Tuesday night, scoring the only goal of the game in the 74th minute to outlast Denison-Schleswig 1-0.
With about six minutes to go in regulation, Vanessa Schechinger sent a through ball to Savannah Parman, who was able to get behind the defense and score the game-winning goal for HCHS.
It was the first one-goal decision of the year for the Cyclone girls, who have generally won big or lost decisively in starting 4-5 overall and 1-4 in the Hawkeye Ten. Denison dropped to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in league play.
“It was exciting for the girls to come out on top of a close, hard-fought game,” said HCHS head coach Jared Boysen. “This was a great win for us against a tough Denison team.”
Played in cold and misty conditions, the match featured just seven combined shots on goal (Denison 4, HCHS 3). Savannah Parman led the Cyclones with four total shots while Raegen Wicks had three. Goalie Lexi Musich finished with four saves.
Focusing their attention on defense, the Cyclones were able to contain Denison senior standout Alex Mohr, who entered the night with 12 goals on the year.
