Foss rounds out HCHS all-state trio on second team

DES MOINES (July 31) -- Class 3A state runner-up Harlan Community had three players recognized on the 2018 All-State Baseball teams released Tuesday by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.
HCHS junior pitcher Brett Sears and senior first baseman Ryan Doran were both named to the 3A first team while senior outfielder Nick Foss was a second-teamer.
All three players have contributed to the Cyclones’ four-year run of state title game appearances, during which time they have won 127 out of 147 games. The team finished 33-4 this past season, losing to Davenport Assumption in the 3A state championship game July 28.
Sears was a second-team selection in 2017 while Doran made last year’s third team.
In addition to naming a first, second and third team in all four classes, the IPSWA committee selected the following four seniors as all-state captains: Brady Gavin of Martensdale-St. Marys in 1A; Jaden Snyder of West Lyon (2A); Luke Ira of Solon (3A); and Luke Llewellyn of 4A champion Urbandale.
Other first-team all-state selections from southwest Iowa included Garret Reisz of Council Bluffs St. Albert (1A), Kaleb Harrison of Tri-Center (1A) and Ben Berg of Kuemper Catholic (2A).
