Spartan girls roll past Rockets for 3-0 start

 ELK HORN (Dec. 8) -- The Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton girls outscored Ar-We-Va 49-13 during the middle two quarters Friday night, improving to 3-0 on the young season with a 78-44 win over the Rockets.
 The sixth-ranked (1A) Spartans led 21-20 after one period before taking over the game with their defense and transition game.
 Five Spartan girls scored in double figures on the night, led by Kealey Nelson’s 18 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Ellie Schultes and Jacey Anthofer both hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points apiece, followed by Tatum Grubbs with 13 points, Sophia Peppers 10, Kamryn Waymire four, Jada Bowlin three and Leslie Caniglia two.
 Defensively, Waymire and Schultes tallied six and five steals, respectively, while Peppers had three steals. Grubbs matched Nelson with five assists.
