Spartans open with a victory

 ELK HORN (Dec. 1) -- Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton outscored Coon Rapids-Bayard 25-11 in the second quarter Friday night en route to a season-opening 66-51 home win over the Crusaders.
 Junior guard Cole Burmeister had a huge game for the Spartans, totaling 26 points, seven assists and five rebounds while shooting 8-of-13 from the field. Trey Nelson added 11 points, Trever Schulz scored 10 and Josh Pettepier knocked down 3-of-4 three-pointers for nine points.
