Unbeaten Hawks stop Wolves tourney run, 39-23, in substate final

IKM-Manning boys finish 15-9

DENISON (Feb. 26) -- Only three IKM-Manning players were able to break into the scoring column Monday night as the Wolves lost a low-scoring Class 1A, Substate 8 final vs. third-ranked Remsen St. Mary’s, 39-23, at Denison.
IKM-Manning trailed just 6-2 after the first quarter and 16-10 at halftime, but could never get going on the offensive end against the unbeaten Hawks (25-0), who advanced to the Boys State Basketball Tournament as the No. 3 seed in 1A.
Junior Alex Lingle scored 10 points for the Wolves while seniors Austin Ahrenholtz and Jared Johnson added seven and six points, respectively. IKM-M shot 11-of-39 from the field (28 percent) and missed all four of its free throws.
“It was a really physical, tough defensive game. We had some chances early on offense, but just could not convert,” said IKM-Manning coach Keith Wagner. “I do give St Mary’s credit because they are a very good team. The guys really battled hard all game and I am really proud of the effort they put forth.
