West Harrison tops Spartans in eight

 MONDAMIN (June 21) -- The Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton baseball team suffered its second loss of the season to West Harrison on Friday night, falling 5-4 in eight innings.
 The Spartans, now 4-9 overall and 3-8 in the Rolling Valley Conference, held leads of 2-0 and 3-2 in the first inning and a half and later tied the game with a run in the top of the sixth. The Hawkeyes (11-4, 6-4 RVC) won the game in walk-off fashion in the eighth by scoring a run off Spartan reliever Cole Burmeister (1-2).
 Both teams finished the night with 11 hits, including Burmeister’s 3-for-4 showing with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored. Dane Paulsen (1 RBI) and Trey Petersen (1 double, 2 runs) both went 2-for-4 for Exira-EHK while Hunter Andersen, Anthony Kingery, Trey Nelson and Dawson Carey all singled.
 Josh Pettepier pitched the first six innings for the Spartans, allowing nine hits and three earned runs. He walked one and struck out seven.
