Wilson 11th in 1A state meet 3,200

Spartan 4x800 relay finishes in 14th

DES MOINES (May 17) -- A top-eight medal continued to elude Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton senior Evan Wilson at last week’s co-ed state track meet, but the Spartan distance runner was able to notch a season-best time in his feature event and also compete in his first-ever state relay.
Exira-EHK’s two state-qualified events took place within a two-hour window inside Drake Stadium on Thursday morning, May 17.
Wilson started things off by finishing 11th out of 24 runners in the 3,200-meter run (Class 1A), clocking a season-best time of 10:19.55.
Later, the Spartan team of Jayden Goodwin, Creighton Nelson, Wilson and Mason Rasmussen placed 14th in the 4x800 relay with a time of 8:29.91, missing their school record by less than two seconds.
Wilson previously placed 15th in the 3,200 as both a freshman and junior with times of 10:33.05 and 10:04.74, respectively. He positioned himself about sixth during the first five laps Thursday before fading a bit down the stretch.
