Wolves win OT thriller at Alta-Aurelia
AURELIA (Oct. 5) -- The IKM-Manning football team kept its district title hopes alive last Friday night with a thrilling 20-19 overtime win at Alta-Aurelia.
Tied 13-13 at the end of regulation, the Wolves scored first in overtime on Stephen Grimm’s three-yard run and Grant Stracke’s extra point. Logan McCoy then scored on an 11-yard TD run for the Warriors, who opted to go for two. The ensuing run play was stopped by IKM-M to preserve the victory.
The Wolves improved to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in Class A, District 2, tied for first place with Sioux Central. Alta-Aurelia dropped to 5-2 and 2-1, respectively.
The Wolves never led until the OT period at Aurelia, tying the game twice at 7-7 and 13-13 on touchdown runs by Grimm (4 yards) and Kyler Rasmussen (1 yard) in the second and fourth quarters. The host Warriors scored first on a three-yard fumble return in the first quarter and regained the lead in the third on a 29-yard McCoy touchdown run.
IKM-Manning overcame three turnovers on the night and outgained Alta-Aurelia 225-195 in total offense. Grimm was a work horse offensively, carrying the ball 30 times for 99 yards and two scores. Rasmussen completed 7-of-14 passes for 77 yards, including two completions to Alex Lingle for 37.
Rasmussen led the defense with 10 total tackles, followed by Dane Blom with eight.
