Shelby County farmland values decrease
COUNTY – Farmland values in Shelby and surrounding counties dropped significantly during the past year, following a statewide trend that has seen values drop for the second consecutive year.
Average Iowa farmland value is now estimated to be $7,633 per acre. Per acre value declined $310, or 3.9 percent, since last year’s survey. Farmland values have now fallen almost 13 percent from the historically high 2013 values.
In Shelby County, farmland values dropped 3.18 percent, from $8,561 per acre to $8,288 per acre on average. Neighboring counties saw similar percentage decreases aside from Carroll, which remained close to steady (see accompanying table).
