Darrell Gene Soe, 89
A Celebration of Life for Darrell Gene Soe was held on Monday, April 22, 2024 at 3 PM at Ohde Funeral Home in Kimballton, Iowa with Rev. Laura Webb, Officiating.
Visitation was held with Family Greeting Friends one hour prior to the service at the Ohde Funeral Home.
Urn Bearers were Darrell’s Grandchildren.
Honorary Urn Bearers – Darrell’s Great-Grandchildren.
Inurnment with Military Honors was held at the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery in Elk Horn by the Kimballton AmVets Post No. 51, Elk Horn American Legion Post No. 322 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard.
Memorials may be directed to the Heritage House in Atlantic or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Darrell Gene Soe was born in Atlantic, Iowa, on June 28th, 1934, the son of Otto and Laura (Neilsen) Soe. Darrell grew up on a farm in the Kimballton area and always enjoyed anything to do with farming. After attending school and farming with his Dad, he met Rosemary Nissen at a dance in Kimballton. Darrell and Rosemary were wed on August 11, 1956 at Elk Horn Lutheran Church. After Darrell served in the military in Germany, they made Elk Horn their home. They were blessed with 3 children; twins Joni and Jeff and their youngest son Troy.
During his career, Darrell ran a combine and shelling business and also worked for Steen Produce & Feed. Later he worked for the Elk Horn Community School District managing the bus barn and the grounds. Upon retirement he loved to go on trips with Rosemary to see different parts of the U.S., plus help his children settle into their lives. Darrell was a member of the Elk Horn Lutheran Church.
Darrell passed away on Wednesday, April 17th, 2024 at the Heritage House in Atlantic at the age of 89.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Rosemary and sister, Shirley Albertsen.
Darrell is survived by his children: Joni Butts and husband Kevin of Minden, IA; Jeff Soe and wife Kim of Red Oak, IA; Troy Soe and wife Marcia of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Nick Soe and wife Kelsi of Winterset, IA; Rachel Kocak and husband Kyle of Lincoln, NE; Tara Stanek and husband Tim of Omaha, NE; Matt Soe and wife Mary Kate of Red Oak, IA; Brandon Soe and wife Kristin of Omaha, NE; great-grandchildren: Kennedy Kocak, Hudson and Olivia Stanek and Drew Soe; sister, Marsha (John) Brown of Malvern, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
