Donna Hansen

Avoca - Donna Hansen was born May 10, 1934 at Avoca, Iowa, to Lloyd Schuning and Ella (Neve) Schuning. Donna was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca.
Donna attended school in Avoca and graduated in 1952. She was united in marriage to Gordon Dale Hansen on January 31st, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois.
Donna was a member of the Corley Community Club as well as the American Legion Auxiliary #227 in Avoca, IA. She was a homemaker and worked at Elm Crest for many years before retiring in 1995.
Donna enjoyed going to the casino with family and friends, camping, quilting, and baking with the kids. She especially loved to travel whether by car, ship, or plane. She was fortunate enough to have traveled with Mark and Patsy to exciting places like Alaska, Seattle WA, Cozumel, Costa Rica, Panama Canal, and several trips to Florida. She was always looking forward to the next adventure. Not only did she enjoy international travel, but she enjoyed the smaller trips within IA. The most enjoyable trips were the drives around Prairie Rose Lake. Donna enjoyed being with family especially her Grandkids and Great Grandkids. She took many coffee breaks with her dear friend and neighbor Carol. Mom was an avid reader where she checked out over 800 books at the public library.
Donna was a volunteer at Relay for Life, Harlan Senior Center, and Elm Crest.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Hansen, parents Lloyd and Ella, 3 sisters, 2 brothers plus in-laws: John and (Doris) Schuning, Jackie and (William) Page, Carol and (Francis) Schneider, Jeanie and (Eldon) Damgaard, Steve Osbahr. Other in-laws include Claude (Tuffy) Pope, Norman Hansen, Francis Pauley, Judy Hansen and David McFerran, Dallas Popp, grandson Gordon Hansen plus nieces and nephews.
Donna is survived by five children: Ricky Hansen of Avoca IA, Jimmy (Darla) Hansen of Coin IA, LaJohnna Shipley of Omaha NE, Rodney (Laura Smith) Hansen of Irwin IA, and Mark (Patsy) Hansen of Naples FL. 8 Grandkids, 12 Great Grandkids and 3 Great Great Grandkids. 3 Sisters Karen Pope of Avoca IA, Diana and (Dennis) Taylor of Avoca IA, Deborah and (Jerry) Stendrup of Harlan IA. 1 brother Larry and (Connie) Osbahr of Arvada CO. 1 brother-in-law Gary Hansen of Harlan IA, Ruth Osbahr of Avoca IA, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
A 10:00 AM Funeral Service was officiated by Rev. Phil Nielsen at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, Iowa on Friday, January 10, 2024. Dain Niklasen, Trent Schuning, Jared Popp, Rick Doran, Danny Schneider, Roger Kay, Neil Hansen, and Jake Smith served as casket bearers. A burial was held following the service at Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa.
Pauley Jones Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
