Wynona Mae (Andersen) Wendt, 97

October 7, 1925 - May 29, 2023

Wynona Mae (Andersen) Wendt, daughter of Julius Mads and Emma (Jensen) Andersen was born on October 7, 1925, at the family farmhouse in rural Audubon County, IA. She passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023 at the age of 97.
Wynona was baptized in the Merrill’s Grove Baptist Church and was a member until she joined Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon and has been a member since.
She attended country school Douglas #3 through eighth grade and Audubon High School graduating with the Class of 1943. After graduation, she worked at the Green Bay Lumber Company until her marriage to Everett Wendt on June 21, 1945. To this union two daughters were born, Sherry Jo and Carol Ann. They each had a son, E. Jason Coufal and Travis Paul Root.
Wynona and Everett made their home on a farm northwest of Audubon. She was a hard-working homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, and helping on the farm. In 1997, Wynona and Everett moved from the family farm to their home in Audubon. Following Everett’s passing on November 24, 2019, she has resided at the Exira Care Center.
Throughout the years, Wynona had many passions including: hosting card parties with friends, visiting with neighbors, camping, and watching game shows. She always looked forward to wintering in Arizona, playing bingo, and going out to eat at different restaurants. Above all, she loved and enjoyed being with her family.
Wynona is survived by her daughters, Sherry Jo Coufal (Bobby Neal) of Omaha, NE and Carol Ann Root (Dave Kneeskern) of Greenfield, IA; two grandsons, E. Jason Coufal (Hillary Lottes) of Omaha, NE and Travis Root (Samantha) of Dakota Dunes, SD; one great grandson, Landry Root of Dakota Dunes, SD; one brother-in-law, Ervin Wendt of San Diego, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mads and Emma Andersen; her husband of 74 years, Everett Wendt; son-in-law, Lanny Coufal; two sisters, Helen Weber (James) and Inez Peckumn (John); father and mother-in-law, Fred and Sophia Wendt; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marvin Wendt, Evelyn Tessman (Archie), Alma Tessman (Earl), Marie Wendt, Winifred Murray (Rod), Wilbur Wendt (Lorraine), and Genevieve Bishop (Jesse).
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa with Pastor Steven Frock officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday, June 3, 2023.
