Basketball: Lady Vikes open with pair of wins

 WOODBINE (Nov. 25) -- AHSTW opened the girls basketball season Monday night with a 50-32 win at Woodbine and also beat CAM on the road Tuesday night, 56-43.
 Lady Vike junior Kailey Jones had a huge opener against the Tigers, totaling 22 points and 17 rebounds to lead all players. Seven of her rebounds came on the offensive end. Senior Kinsey Scheffler was close behind with her own double-double, tallying 19 points and 15 boards (six offensive). Scheffler cashed in 11-of-17 free throws and led the team with four steals, two blocked shots and three assists.
 The Lady Vikes shot just below 30 percent from the floor, including 1-of-8 from the three-point arc, and also turned the ball over 19 times vs. Woodbine. Their work on the offensive glass, though, led to 17 second chance points and they also outscored the Tigers 17-5 in points off turnovers.
 Woodbine, which shot just 18 percent, was led by Nicole Sherer’s 11 points and nine rebounds.

Girls: Logan-Magnolia 61, Exira-EHK 41 -- Senior Kylie Morrison led the Panthers with 32 points and junior Emilie Thompson added 12.
 Macy Emgarten paced the Spartans in defeat with 17 points.

Tuesday, November 26
 Girls: AHSTW 56, CAM 43 -- Scoring leaders for the Lady Vikes included: Kinsey Scheffler 15 points, Kailey Jones 14, Claire Harris 13 and Claire Denning 10. AHSTW outscored CAM 14-5 in the fourth quarter to pull away.
Girls: Harlan Community at Panorama -- The Cyclones’ season opener was postponed due to inclement weather and has been rescheduled for Thursday, December 12 (JV-Varsity) at 6:00 p.m.
 Boys: Exira-EHK Jamboree -- Cancelled.
