Cyclone Cross Country Camp kicks off '21 season

HARLAN (Aug. 10) -- The annual Harlan Community Cyclone Cross Country Camp is being held Tuesday-Friday this week for grades 7-12.
More than 55 HCHS and HCMS harriers registered for this year’s camp, which opened with time trials on Tuesday and will conclude with a camp race at Prairie Rose State Park on Friday (Aug. 13).
The Cyclone high school teams will start practices Monday and are currently scheduled to open the season on Tuesday, August 24, at the Shenandoah Invite.
The HCHS girls return two varsity regulars in seniors Kaia Bieker and Ellie Gross from last year’s Hawkeye Ten Conference runner-up, which won six team titles during the regular season and finished seventh at the Class 3A state meet. Bieker was an individual champion at Shenandoah and Tri-Center in 2020 before placing fifth at the conference meet and 31st at state.
The HCHS boys return four varsity letter winners in Ian Shelton, Kaiden Milliken, Seth Anderson and Joseph Bragg. Last year’s Cyclones won three team titles and placed fourth in the Hawkeye Ten. Shelton earned a 20th-place conference medal as a freshman and secured seventh-place finishes at Shenandoah at Tri-Center.
