Cyclones continue dominance with fourth straight victory

Locked in a 1-1 tied at halftime Tuesday night, the HCHS boys varsity soccer team took over in the second half and beat the AHSTW Vikings 4-2.

“We just said you guys are doing a good job,” said HCHS Head Soccer Coach Dave Voge. “Avoca’s a tough team. They have a lot of really good athletes on the team. They’ve got some size to them.”

Senior Ashton Lyon was the star of the night as he came away with two of the four goals for the Cyclones. With Lyon closing in on graduation, Voge addressed what Lyon means to the program.

“He was actually one of the last kids on this team that I’ve coached ever since he was little,” he said. “Ashton’s got a little special place in my heart. He’s just a great guy.”

With the victory, the Cyclones have won four straight games and will now turn their attention to the St. Albert Falcons, 6-8, at the YMCA Fields at 6 p.m. on Friday night.

“They are always a tough team,” he added. “They have a very good coaching staff down there. We have to be ready to go.”
