Cyclones continue hot streak on Wicks’ third consecutive hat trick

Senior Raegen Wicks continued her hot streak Thursday night with her third straight hat trick as the HCHS girls varsity soccer team beat the Nodaway Valley Wolverines 4-1 for their seventh win in a row.

“Raegen Wicks had another strong game with her third hat trick in a row,” said HCHS Head Soccer Coach Jared Boysen. “She was able to create space with the dribble in the first half and was able to score on two really good shots from both sides of the field.”

At halftime, the Cyclones led by two and Boysen knew with them switching sides in the second half, they would have to change their approach to how they would play.

“We knew we would have to come out strong in the second half as they had the advantage with the wind,” he said. “The defense played extremely well and we learned from the chances that we gave up against Logan giving up penalties in the box and were able to hold off their push to begin the second half.”

With this victory, the Cyclones achieved something historic for the program.

“We tied the most wins in school history with 11 and will be looking for the school record going into our regional matchup with St. Albert next week,” he added.

The Cyclones will face off against St. Albert on Wednesday in the Class 1A - Region 2 at 6 p.m. at Merrill Field.
