Cyclones cruise to fourth straight win

Thursday night, the HCHS varsity baseball team took on the Kuemper Catholic Knights and soundly defeated them, 16-5. This marks the fourth consecutive victory for the Cyclones.

Sophomore Braydon Ernst got the ball as he pitched six innings and struck out three batters.

“Braydon was very competitive last night,” said HCHS Head Baseball Coach Heath Stein. “He did not have his best stuff, but he kind of figured out how to make pitches when he needed to. Very quality outing for Braydon.”

Two players for the Cyclones stood out offensively in senior Joey Moser and sophomore Cade Sears as they both drove in four runs each in their victory.

“Both those guys have made some really good adjustments,” Coach Stein said. “Cade is starting to pull the ball in the air, which is a really good sign. Joey hit a triple to right center as well. Those are the two guys that we really like to drive in those runs.”

The Cyclones have the weekend off, but will play a doubleheader against the Red Oak Tigers, 8-9 on Monday with game one starting at 5:30 p.m. Senior Alex Monson will be on the hill for game one.

Last time the Cyclones played a doubleheader was against the St. Albert Falcons in which they split the series, winning the first game and dropping the second game.

“Red Oak is a much improved team,” Stein added. “It’s easy to get out of the gate, but it’s hard to stay focused and stay energetic for two ballgames, so the second one is usually the tougher one to get.”
