Cyclones demolish Tigers on the road

The HCHS varsity baseball team won it’s fifth consecutive game Tuesday on the road against the Carroll Tigers and won 16-2 behind the arm of Freshman Hayden Soma who pitched five innings, striking out five batters.

“Hayden competes really well on the mound,” said HCHS Head Baseball Coach Heath Stein. “His pitch count got a little high, threw quite a few more balls than he wanted to, but he did a nice job for us last night.”

Sophomore Quinn Koesters had a big night offensively for the Cyclones as he had three hits, drove in a run and scored four of their runs en route to the victory.

“We like him in that two hole,” Coach Stein said. “He didn’t bunt last night, he’s a good bunter.”

The Cyclones have a challenging schedule ahead of them before playoff baseball begins, starting with the Clarinda Cardinals, 19-6, who come into town for a doubleheader Thursday night with the first game set to start at 5 p.m. with sophomore Braydon Ernst getting the ball in game one.

“They’re sitting at the one seed in their district with the postseason coming up,” he said. “They’re playing good baseball. They’re going to be a really quality test for us and I look forward to that.”
