Cyclones have strong night in Atlantic

Thursday night, HCHS boys and girls track and field team competed in the Hawkeye-10 Coed Track Meet. The boys took home fourth place and the girls took home second place as they competed competitively throughout the night.

“Overall we had a great night on the track,” said HCHS Boys Track and Field Head Coach Sam Brummer. “We ran season best times in sprint medley, shuttle, distance medley, 4x4 and were just off season best times in 4x1 and 4x2.”

Brummer highlighted individuals on his roster, including junior Aidan Hall, who competed at the Drake Relays in Des Moines last weekend.

“Connor, Wil, Jacob and Aidan are a force in the sprint relays,” he said. “Aidan had a championship in the 100 and had a personal record in the 200 for second.”

Brummer feels highly optimistic about their next competition May 12.

“We are trending in the right direction for state qualifying come Thursday,” he added.

HCHS girls track and field head coach Jennifer Hamilton was very impressed with how her girls competed throughout the course of the night as well.

“We had 10 individual PRs including Lauren M in the 400, Jenna in the 800, Ellie in the 1500, Lindsey in the 3000, Jaylee and Jaci in the 100 hurdles, Abby and Molly in the 400 hurdles, Paige in the long jump and Cameron in the discus,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton was very proud of their efforts that they showed throughout the meet. Monday, they will get right back to work and on Thursday they will participate in the 3A - 5 - Denison-Schleswig in which eight teams will be competing.

“They competed so hard, and they understand the work doesn’t end here,” she added. “We will rest up today and get back to work on Monday.”
