Cyclones move win streak to six

It was hot and humid at Merrill Field for senior night, but the HCHS girls varsity soccer team came out dominant against the AHSTW Vikings, winning 9-0. Senior Raegen Wicks had three goals on the night, while freshman Ivy Stephens had two.

“Raegen’s been passing a lot and getting quite a few assists, but we needed her to score last night and again tonight,” said HCHS Head Soccer Coach Jared Boysen. “Ivy’s been doing a good job on the backside. They’ve done a great job offensively for us.”

It was also senior night at Merrill Field honoring those about to graduate and move to the next stage of their lives. Boysen talked about what he will miss most about those girls who are leaving.

“They’ve been leaders all the way through,” he said. “They’ve been playing since they were freshman. We’ll really miss their leadership.”

With this victory, it marks the sixth consecutive for the Cyclones, but it doesn’t get any easier as they will turn their attention to the Nodaway Valley Wolverines, 4-7, on Thursday night at Merrill Field at 5 p.m.

“Nodaway Valley will be a tougher one,” he added. “They’ll have a really strong defense.”
