Cyclones play home run derby at J.J., win 14-4

Juhl ties school record with three-homer game vs. Clarinda; Foss and Croghan also go deep for HCHS

HARLAN -- During the past few years or so, it really didn’t matter which direction or how hard the wind was blowing at Jim Goeser Field. If the ball was exiting the yard off a Harlan Community bat, it was usually just a foul ball in the parking lot.
Only nine games into the 2016 season, however, the times they are a changin’ for Cyclone baseball.
Always an adept “small ball” team that could score runs without the long ball and win with solid pitching and defense, the Cyclones have added power to the mix so far this summer and are having some fun in the process.
On Thursday night - with a strong wind blowing out to left field and Clarinda’s pitcher throwing strikes at hitter-friendly speeds - HCHS belted five home runs in a 14-4, five-inning win over the Cardinals.
